About Paul C. Green, PhD

Paul Green earned his PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Memphis. As a graduate student he gained applied experience in employee assessment and training in a large chemical manufacturing company. Prior to graduation, he wrote a Federal Law Enforcement Grant to develop a selection system for a large metropolitan police department. Today, he identifies himself as an Organizational Scientist with a focus on the selection interview.

Dr Green has conducted approximately 5,000 assessments of managers, executives, and individual contributors in a broad range of organizations. Further, he coached hundreds of managers on job search techniques and generated a broad range of management training courses. However, the jewel in his career was the development of the “Behavioral Interviewing” Seminar in the 1980’s and delivery of it in over 500 training classes and speeches. During this period he built a large client base that included both small companies and Fortune 100 organizations. Additionally, he authored “More Than A Gut Feeling,” an interviewer training video which was described by Fortune Magazine as being one of the best-selling management training videos of all time.

In the fall of 2012, Dr Green was recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus of the University of Memphis. This award was based on his professional and community service as: (1) the President of the Memphis Area Psychological Association, (2) a Vice-President of the Instructional Systems Association, (3) a board member of the West Tennessee selection team for candidates for State Licensure, (5) a contributor on professional committees for the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and (6) a Trustee for Lambuth University.

Dr. Green was recognized as a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology in 2019. This award is earned by less than 4% of the Society Members and is presented to those who are regarded as having made significant contributions to the field. Presently, Dr. Green is building a new interviewer training company that will deliver COG-B™ training with provisions for use of technology in work analysis, disciplined interview administration, and rating candidate responses during an interview.
